Sandra Foster is the President of Headspring Consulting Inc. where she provides
consulting services to advisors and their firms, employers and employees, and personal financial advisor to
individual Canadians on an hourly rate (she does not sell any investment or insurance products). Designed
and conducted leading-edge research on financial advice in Canada, developed and presented numerous keynote addresses and
workshops, consulted with firms to develop programs and policies, and helped advisors build professional practices and others
to exit the business gracefully.
She is a
popular and engaging speaker on life’s financial challenges and national best-selling author of best-selling books including
You Can’t Take It With You: Estate Planning for Canadians, was a
groundbreaking book on the topic, written after she tried to figure out who might be willing to look after her four young
children. Her other top books include Make the Most of What You’ve Got: Managing your Retirement
Income, Who’s Minding Your Money: Financial Intelligence for Canadians, a study of the financial
industry, the Estate Planning Workbook and Buying and Selling a Book of Business: What every financial advisor and planner
should know.
Ms. Foster is frequently quoted in the Toronto Star, Financial Post,
Investment Executive, MoneySense, Advisor’s Edge, and in many local and national publications. She
has written numerous regular columns and has appeared as a guest on radio and TV including The National and CTV.
She is quoted in the media as an expert on personal finance - with emphasis on both the personal and the financial.
Ms. Foster holds an
undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto and completed the Advanced Program in Human Resources
Management (APHRM) offered by Rotman Executive Programs at the UofT’s Rotman School of Management.
Sandra currently holds the Certified Financial Planning (CFP®), Certified Investment Manager (CIM),
Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), and Fellow, Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designations.
She has held numerous roles in the industry, including past
chair of a working group under the Fair Dealing Model for the Ontario Securities Commission, former member of the Editorial
Advisory Board for Advisor’s Edge magazine and the Canadian Journal of Financial Planning and national committee member
of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP). Ms. Foster was
a vice-president at a major firm and a financial broker/advisor with a successful practice prior to setting up Headspring.
